Singer, songwriter and bandleader BERITH draws inspiration from both her native Norwegian roots, and those of Celtic and American traditions. She is living with her partner and two children where her family of sailors, fishermen and farmers has lived for houndreds of years; just about as far out into the North Sea one can get without a boat
With her acoustic guitar and melodeon, Berith has been travelling the fjords and weather beaten west coast of Norway since her teens. But only recently has she teamed up with Demningen Label, and recorded an album's worth of material soon ready to be released.
The BAND: Dag Atle Håland: Guitars, mandolin, & backing vocal - Håkon Askeland; Banjo & mandolin - Lars Hammersland: Piano, Hammond, recorder - Svein Henning Berstad: bass & backing vocal - Anders Vengen Jensen: drums & percussion.
The new single "FAR AWAY" - Describes life in Norway as late as only 2-3 generations back, when many farms and fisheries were too small & poor to support most of its young ones through adulthood. They were forced to move or emigrate to build a life elsewhere - for the most part to USA. Although a joyful track, lyrics have a serious edge, reflecting not only history, but also what can be seen in todays world of people fleeing and migrating.
Previous single; "YOU COULD BE MINE" is a song about a longing and having so much to give, but not that special one to give it to. A wish to make a difference in the world, also through the loving care of a child....more
