Footshooter is the moniker of London based producer, DJ and musician Barney Whittaker. He blends skippy, broken beats with atmospheric warmth combining programming with live instrumentation to create an organic, rich sound. He has performed live and DJ'd in support of Yussef Kamaal, Vels Trio, Andrew Ashong, Max Graef, 30/70 and Alfa Mist as well as playing regularly at south-east London night STEEZ and Brainchild Festival.
His 2017 release, ‘Strange Days EP’ (Famous Friends) gained regular plays on NTS, Balamii, WorldWide FM and by Bonobo in a DJ set at his NYC Boiler Room. His 2018 release, ‘Technicolour Nights’ (YAM Recordings), was met with similar acclaim, gaining plays on BBC 6 Music by Gilles Peterson, as well as regular spins on Tim Garcia's Jazz FM show.
Footshooter also collaborated with Jack Stephenson-Oliver (Vels Trio), Poppy Ajudha and Brother Portrait on a project called SAUL. Released on Rhythm Section International in September 2019, it received support from Gilles Peterson on 6 Music and Bradley Zero, Alexander Nut and Secretsundaze on NTS Radio. SAUL's live set has performed warm up sets for Yazmin Lacey and Richard Spaven in the past year.
Footshooter's new EP, Libations and Movement, is due out in May 2020 via Dance Regular. It features vocals from MA.MOYO, Jaisal & Slam The Poet, Natty Wylah and Izzy Risk, and trumpet from Wilf Petherbridge.
