Aïda Samb is a Senegalese performer who was born in 1988 into a Toucouleur Gawlo family with a long legacy in music and history. Many of Aïda Samb songs become very popular and trendy online with a great number of streaming and downloads on Boomplay. She is a descendent of Samba Diabaré Samb, a virtuoso of khalam and the daughter of Fatou Sy Samb, a great vocalist who sang alongside Baaba Maal.
Career
Samb began conducting her school choir at the age of eight, having acquired an interest in music. In 2001 she was approached by the committee of the Schooling of Girls (SCOF) to sing for a campaign aimed at increasing the number of girls attending school.
Having been recommended by her uncle to Kabou Gueye in 2004, Aida began her musical career as a backing vocalist after she signed a four-year recording deal with the Jololi label. She worked with several big names, like Youssou Ndour, Kine' Lam, Pape Diouf, Youro Ndiaye, and Abou Thioubalo, among others, and made appearances on various albums.
Aida rose to prominence after appearing on Youssou Ndour's song "Fekke Ma Ci Boolé." She earned fame following the publication of her debut song "what about me?" in 2009, but not until 2012 when she launched her first album "Sarabaa."
In the same year, at the 2012 Kora Music Awards in Abidjan, she was named Best Female Traditional African Music Artist. She also became a household name in Senegal.
In 2016, she debuted with the track "Yaw Rekk," which featured Nigerian singer Wizkid, and in 2017, she followed up with "Dege Na," a more traditional mbalax-style song.
Aida's credits also include the 2020 song "Baadola" and the 2017 album "Woyalama," on which she collaborated with notable stars as Pape Thiopet, Hakim, and Wizkid.
