Born and raised in Adelaide SA in October 11 1999, James Totani is a DJ and music producer working for the big league under current alias Netanya (stylised as: netanya). His musical style has evolved over the years from Big Room and House to Dubstep/Trap. A child prodigy, he had thousands of plays on his Beat100 and Soundcloud profiles before being discovered by Sara Ryan of Smash Up Records. His first releases in 2015 (alias Sam Vuuren), Lights in Motion and God of Israel, received minimal to no fanfare. God of Israel, which featured vocals from UK-based singer Santina was heard on a segment on Seven Network's current affairs show Today Tonight.
Netanya continued to show resilience through tough times, by collaborating with fellow producers Ya'akob, Strell and US-based singer Christina Marie Magenta on an unreleased 2016 EP titled Hey Cutie which is only available on his Bandcamp. In 2017, Netanya re-released Lights in Motion and an extended version of a song from the Hey Cutie EP called Clarity, both featuring vocals from Christina Marie Magenta. After an almost 2-year hiatus, Netanya reinvented his musical identity with the release of Lemme Go in July 2019, which is built around the old-fashioned Progressive House music he previously made, and features vocals by Marco from RoundRobin, the very first male singer to collaborate with Netanya. After the big breakthrough success of Lemme Go, new music will be released every 3 months and a studio album is planned for late 2020.
