Apo Sahagian is a musician born and bred in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City in Jerusalem. Ever since picking up a guitar at the age of 13, he has been involved in the Armenian folk music scene, in the Diaspora and Armenia itself. His focus is on preserving old folk songs from the Armenian Highlands with the aim of making them survive through the 21st century until the next person comes to do the same in the 22nd century and so forth. His approach to Armenian folk songs is to keep it simple, accessible, and true to its highland form and melody- somehow trying to find the balance in being able to play the songs in a bar, wedding, and a bonfire....more
