Rapper, Singer, Songwriter and Producer, Waqas is no newcomer to the music industry, hailing from the award-winning, internationally acclaimed hip-hop band Outlandish. Following six inspirational albums with the band, after amassing an entourage of musical enthusiasts worldwide, over a career spanning 20 years, Waqas released his second solo album ‘One Foot In The Sink The Other On A Banana Peel’ on 25th May 2017, written and produced by him.
The new album is a refreshing and very real exploration of finding a balance between living amidst two cultures and identities, as a spiritual individual growing up in the West.
As always, Waqas goes against the grain, where autobiographical anecdotes are intertwined within the lyrics, relatable stories and scenarios to many, which is what makes the album so real. As Waqas explains, ‘It’s a long title I know. The foot in the sink represents deen and culture for me, during the act of doing Wudu - for a non-Muslim it probably looks strange and funny to see someone do this. The foot on a banana peel represents dunya, the world which is slippery, so it’s a life-long battle to keep striking a perfect pose and maintaining a balance between the two.’
