Segue is a synth-pop project from Perth, Western Australia.
Jeremy Segal and Daniel Zeljko create forward thinking music that is well aware of its past, combining processed vocals and synth textures with modulated hooks and timeless melodies. Gently carried through contemplative lyricism and thoughtful arrangements, this refined take on DIY music is cerebral, catchy, and emotive.
Segue (fka Segue Safari) emerged from Segal’s bedroom and into the Perth music community in early 2016 with the release of ‘Friends’ - a 5 track offering of lo-fi, hi-contrast dream pop. The following year saw them open for the likes of Cate le Bon, Methyl Ethel, and Deep Sea Arcade, with follow up EP ‘Salutations’ helping them land a slot at Fremantle Falls Festival in early 2018.
Written, recorded and mixed by Segal across four houses, Segue’s debut full length album Primary Ties explores themes of individual and collective anxiety, oscillating between feelings of uncertainty and bittersweet contentment. Segal and Zeljko spent a long summer refining their sonic palette in an effort to capture this, drawing inspiration from the likes of Bowie, Beach House, Frank Ocean, and Brian Eno. Primary Ties was released in November 2018 with a local feature slot on RTRfm and a sold out launch show at The Bird.
Segue’s upcoming release ‘2 Things’ is an unapologetically playful take on outside-the-box sophisti-pop, and will be out March 18th, 2020....more
