James Dawkins

James Dawkins is a professional Keyboardist born and raised in Miami where his father at the age of 5 gave him his first job as a musician playing drums. His father is a well-versed musician who taught James the fundamentals of musicianship which eventually lead him to taking piano lessons when he turned 9. He spent his earlier years learning to play with other musicians in his church’s gospel band and as lead keyboardist in his high school jazz band. He knew at an early age that music was ingrained in his soul because he would get goosebumps while listening to the likes of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Stevie Wonder.

After graduating high school James began working as a musician around Miami and later decided to attend Miami Dade College where he graduated with a degree in Music Education. James grew up in an underprivileged area of Miami and in his experience he understands the lack of accessible creative education outlets. He gives free piano lessons to kids that want to learn music during the summer months. James Dawkins has shared the stage and toured with many prominent artists in his career, including Nik West, KC and The Sunshine Band, George Tandy, Endless Possibilities, etc. He continues to share his gift of music to the world with his latest album ‘Phenomenon’.
