Dream Demon began as the drunken kind of late-night brain-strike you have when you're on tour with a couple bands whose company you enjoy. What if we all made a record together?
The members of Dream Demon, made up of players from an endless list of bands (At the time: Scott Mercado of San Diego's Manuok, Mike Sparks, Robert Cheek and John O'Connell of Seattle's By Sunlight and Ben Heywood of LA's Summer Darling) did just that, meeting four times over a couple years. At studios in as varied locations as Seattle, Stinson Beach, San Diego and Joshua Tree, the band recorded 14 tunes, 3 of which appear on their first release, EP1.
The band's sound is inspired by experimental rock bands, like Talk Talk, The For Carnation and Slint mixed with Pacific Northwest 90s bands like Sunny Day Real Estate. Lyrically, the band, of whom all five members write and sing the songs, Dream Demon explores the concept of death anxiety, depression, addiction and isolation.
Meticulously recorded and mixed by master engineer Robert Cheek, the tunes of Dream Demon are ultimately a celebration of what it means to make human connection, as the members traveled thousands of miles to meet and make these unique and galvanizing songs. The band plans to release all the tunes over the next few months in four different collections via LA's Chain Letter Collective....more
