Lukong Dieudonne Yufenyuy, popularly known as Witty Minstrel, who was born and raised in Cameroon, has over the years made a huge name for himself in the entertainment industry in his country. Many Witty Minstrel songs become very popular and trendy online with a great number of streaming and downloads on Boomplay.
He came up with the name Witty Minstrel when he was in secondary school. He really loved music with a passion and when he started writing songs he had to come up with a new name, and it was easy for him since he was a literature student. He came across the word witty and it suited his personality so well, so he adopted it, same with the word minstrel.
Career
He calls his music Njang Hip Hop. He created this genre himself, and it’s a fusion of my traditional Njang music and Hip Hop. He created this because he wanted to bring something new to the music world, and he wanted to export his culture.
He used to do Hip Hop music, but he was not successful with it because he figured that he cannot copy another man’s culture and be better than that person at it, so he decided to use his own culture to entertain the world, just like others have been doing.
The first song he ever recorded was in high school (St. Sylvester’s Catholic High School Sop), and the title of the song was ‘No to Corruption’. The title of his first studio album was ‘Faith to Follow’, so he doesn't think that the way he used to see music back in the day has changed in any way, because till now he still has the same vision, which is sensitisation.
Achievements
I did not just become famous overnight. I worked for so many years to become who I am now. So it’s patience and consistency that took me to where I am today. That is my secret! I am a creative person and I have always wanted to put smiles on people’s faces.
