Career
It was at the age of 13 that Abdou Guité Seck was elected golden voice in his hometown, Saint-Louis in Senegal. A consecration preceded by his prodigious career in the Senegalese cultural milieu where his passion for song earned him a meteoric rise from a young age.
School theater groups, neighborhood sports and cultural associations, regional and then national orchestras, everywhere the young Abdou seduced his generation with his melodious voice. It will be by chance of a meeting with French and Senegalese musician friends in Saint-Louis that this boy, born June 18, 1979 in Saint-Louis of griot parents, becomes the vocal lead of the Franco-Senegalese group Wock.
Formed in 1996 by these musicians in search of original music combining rock and mbalakh sounds from Senegal, "Wock" achieved a reputation that very quickly exceeded the limits of Senegal. Then begins for the child of Saint-Louis a musical opening on an international scale with the release of the afropop style album "Kemane" signed with the major BMG. The purity and beauty of his melodies, the depth of his messages as well as the talent and professionalism deployed on stage despite his young age, open to Abdou Guité the doors of world-renowned musical events:
Festivals Nuits Métisses, Fiesta des Docks , North Sea Jazz, Montreux Jazz, in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy and Africa with more than 18 countries visited. Abdou Guité meets during these events many international stars on stage such as Nd Paco Seri, Phil Collins, Richard Bona, Paolo Fresu, Youssou Ndour and in particular the famous jazzman of Austrian origin Joe Zawinul.
On the occasion of the Saint-Louis International Jazz Festival in 1997, the exchange between this old companion of Miles Davis and the young prodigy from Saint-Louis marked the music lovers who came to attend the event. Abdou was then invited in 1998 by Zawinul to perform the title bimoya in the latter's album, The world tour.
In 2000 with Wock the child of Saint-Louis will receive the Rfi Discovery Prize before obtaining a nomination for the Victoires de la Musique 2001 in the prestigious category "World Album of the Year". The richness of these experiences is such that naturally, when Abdou Guité decided at the end of his contract with Wock in 2002 to start a solo career, he had no difficulty in impose in Senegalese music.
This is how he set up his own orchestra with which he produced in July of the same year his first solo opus entitled "Evolution". A well-balanced mix of mbalakh style and world music with five favorite themes addressed: childhood, married life, hope, education and universal peace.
As if to say that the child who lay dormant in him has matured well. From all regions of Senegal to neighboring countries, the album which on tour was then called "Summer show of Abdou Guité Seck", was acclaimed by a seduced and conquered public who recognized in Abdou Guité a promising voice in music. African.
A year later in December 2003, he did it again with a new album, "Coono aduna". -the ordeals of life- which national critics unanimously judge to be of exceptional musical quality. offers us here a musical symbiosis combining the traditional and deep rhythms of Senegal with other scents and international musical subtleties: AFRO FUSION.
A new style a new vision of Senegalese music by the artist. The album Coono aduna then achieved the best sale on the Senegalese market and made Abdou an undisputed star in the country. The album will be presented to the international market for the African public in the form of cd, dvd and vhs entitled "coono evolution" - because bringing together the two albums - released under the label Africa productions.
In October 2004 Abdou Guité won an award at the "golden djembe" gala ceremony in Guinea and became a finalist for the 2004 Rfi Musique du Monde Prize in Mali. He was notably selected during the same period by an international jury to represent Senegal at the 2005 Francophone Games in Niamey.
