NELLA

Nella was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where she spent the early years of her life. Her upbringing was immersed in art, music, dance, and education. She developed a love for music and dance from her parents—her dad was an avid guitar player who loved listening to Makossa and African American Blues and Jazz, and her mom was a reputable dancer in College. Her parents dreamed of her getting a quality education, so they set their sights on Los Angeles, California. Nella moved to Los Angeles as a pre-teen and pursued her studies until she obtained her Pharm.D. degree. Although her dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter were deferred by the struggles of being an immigrant in the U.S. she never lost sight on her passion for writing, singing and creating music. Haunted by unfulfilled promises and potential, Nella finally decided to publish her first body of work (coming soon). Her music is an expression of her heart and the diverse cultures she has experienced. As a singer-songwriter, Nella’s songs give listeners a bird’s eye view into the awakening of a sleeping phoenix and lessons she learns as a young woman. Her music influenced by many genres including Makossa, Bikutsi, Mbalax, Bend-Skin, Afrobeats, RnB, Hip-Hop, Coupe-Decale and Amapiano. She strives to create a timeless and inclusive sound that brings people together and lightens their world.
